A look inside the DOE-NE microreactor program
The U.S. Department of Energy Microreactor Program was established in 2019 to support research and development (R&D) of technologies related to the demonstration and deployment of low-power, transportable reactors to provide power and heat for decentralized generation in civilian, industrial, and defense energy sectors. The program conducts both fundamental and applied R&D to de-risk technology performance and manufacturability readiness of microreactors.
In this presentation, hear how microgrids are a key place to demonstrate the readiness and relevance of nuclear to support carbon-free generation. This will include how the MARVEL research microreactor, set to begin operating in 2024, will be exercised as part of a small microgrid.
