A recent analysis from the Construction Industry Institute found that two-thirds of projects are 25% over budget while others are behind schedule or unable to meet primary business objectives. 

Digital twins have realized significant improvements to operations and maintenance costs, with this approach embraced in the U.S. Department of Energy national laboratories. This includes through applications to heat pipe experiments within MAGNET, developed through the Department of Energy’s microreactor program. Validated within a non-nuclear environment, this digital twin framework establishes a foundation that can be enhanced to apply digital twins to nuclear microreactor environments. 

This presentation focuses on how these open source technologies can transform complex infrastructure development projects.
