Benefits and challenges with low-carbon fuels
Decarbonizing the energy sector presents both a threat and an opportunity for the stationary gas turbine fleet. Opportunity comes through the power-to-power concept, in which gas turbines must operate on carbon-free or carbon-neutral fuels. Hydrogen and ammonia are frequently discussed carbon-free fuels, and renewable natural gas also may play a role.
However, gas turbine operability with these fuels differs with required equipment retrofits and replacements. This session will detail operability and emissions considerations, challenges and the benefits that will come with hydrogen, ammonia or renewable natural gas fuels.
