Coal to biomass conversion at the Huntly Power Station: Lessons learned

The Huntly Power Station, owned by Genesis Energy New Zealand, is pursuing an option to convert its 3x250 MW coal-fired units to utilize biomass black pellets.  

Genesis Energy and Black & Veatch have executed a test burn to demonstrate the feasibility of this conversion. This presentation shares the lessons learned related to acquiring reliable black pellet supplies, developing domestic resources, planning test burn execution and deploying plant modifications to better ensure success.
