Nuclear's Small Revolution

Many Generation-IV reactor vendors have proposed the use of high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) in their designs, including almost all the companies funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program.

DOE can provide limited quantities of HALEU but a domestic source of production is needed. Centrus Energy is developing a HALEU demonstration production line at the American Centrifuge Plant in Piketon, Ohio. The plant is the only U.S. facility licensed to produce HALEU.

This session will provide the audience with an overview of critical components of the front-end nuclear fuel cycle including Uranium, Conversion, Enrichment and Fabrication. Presenters will discuss opportunities and challenges surrounding future supplies of LEU and HALEU to support the clean energy transition.
