The Case for Nuclear Longevity
The U.S. nuclear fleet, with an average age of 42 years, is at a crossroads: Decommission or request a license renewal for an additional 20 years of operation. But with our growing energy needs, extending the lifespan of the existing fleet ensures a reliable, carbon-neutral energy future.
This presentation will discuss operational constraints and concerns for the U.S. nuclear fleet, in addition to a cost analysis of life extensions for existing plants. Discussion will also cover plans to restart Palisades in Michigan, along with changes in decisions to shut down the Diablo Canyon, Perry and Clinton plants.
