Controlling Lime and Fly Ash Recycle Scaling in Spray Dryer Absorber Systems

Anyone who has chiseled lime scale out of a slaker knows the maintenance burden SDA scrubber systems carry. Scale in slurry piping, storage tanks, blend tanks and atomizers drives recurring outage work, and the fly ash recycle loop compounds the problem. 

This session examines two documented chemical programs for controlling lime and fly ash recycle scaling, built on field trial data from operating coal plants. It covers the mechanisms behind scale formation in each part of the system, from slakers through atomizers, then presents measured outcomes from the antiscalant programs applied at each: reductions in maintenance frequency and the documented cost avoidance that followed. 

The emphasis is on field data over theory, two working programs, the numbers behind them, and enough mechanistic grounding to judge where the approach fits other lime slurry systems.
