The power industry is moving beyond pilots to focus on how AI can deliver meaningful improvements in the performance, reliability, efficiency, and resilience of generation assets.

This dynamic half-day session will explore how utilities, technology providers, and researchers are putting AI to work across the power generation industry and obtaining real value. From predictive maintenance and advanced diagnostics to engineering, digital twins, and operational decision support, attendees will hear how AI is moving from pilots and demonstrations into real-world applications.

Building on the practical deployment focus of the 2026 POWERGEN AI session, which brought together generation organizations and technology leaders to discuss AI development and implementation, the 2027 program will focus on what it takes to turn promising technology into sustained operational value.

What to Expect:

  • AI in Action: Hear real-world examples of how power producers are applying AI to address operational and engineering challenges and improve generation performance.
  • From Pilot to Deployment: Explore what it takes to move AI applications beyond proofs of concept and integrate them into existing plant systems, workflows, and operating environments.
  • The Next Generation of AI: Examine how rapidly advancing capabilities, including generative and agentic AI, digital twins, and edge AI, could change how generation assets are engineered, operated, maintained, and optimized.
  • Lessons from the Field: Learn what is working, where challenges remain, and what utilities and technology providers are learning as AI moves into real-world power industry applications.
  • Looking Ahead: Explore the path toward more intelligent and increasingly autonomous power generation while maintaining the reliability, safety, security, and human accountability required by the industry.
