Principal Consultant, EnerNeX
Brian Smith joined EnerNex in 2008 as a Principal Consultant on the Smart Grid Engineering team. He provides utilities with cyber security and systems engineering support for smart grid areas such as substation and distribution automation, AMI, and other utility convergence and infrastructure applications. Prior to joining EnerNex, he was employed by the Tennessee Valley Authority as a Principal Engineer in the Power System Operations / Electric System Projects business unit for over 17 years. While at TVA, he worked in the Telecommunications and SCADA/EMS field where his responsibilities included assisting in the development of the next generation communications architecture supporting enterprise integration for field device data from the substation environment including cyber security. Brian also served as one of TVA’s technical leads for the Bradley, TN 500kV Substation – one of the first multi-relay vendor projects to implement the full suite of IEC 61850. He received his B.S.E degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1991.
