Erik Meuleman

Chief Technology Officer, ION Clean Energy

As ION Clean Energy's Chief Technology Officer, Erik provides overall technical direction for ION’s solvent-based CO2 capture systems that support continuous improvement of its commercial products. Erik has experience on gas separation technologies with an emphasis on CO2 for the last two decades. He has overseen CO2 capture campaigns on coal, lignite, natural gas (boiler and NGCC), and refinery gas collaborating with major companies such as Shell, AGL, Equinor & Vattenfal. Prior to joining ION, at TNO in the Netherlands, he focused on CO2 capture technologies from natural gas, synthesis gas, and flue gas. In 2008, Erik continued at CSIRO Energy in Australia, where he was responsible for integrating academic, institute, company, and government interests related to decarbonizing Australia’s power generation. Erik has over 30 years of experience in technology development for separation processes and has led numerous international innovation projects with teams based in Europe, Brazil, Australia, Japan, China and the United States. Erik has authored over 20 peer-reviewed papers and holds six patents. He received his Ph.D. and M.Sc. from the University of Twente in the Netherlands. In addition to being a family man, Erik is also an enthusiastic soccer player and accomplished coach, and loves riding through the mountains on one of his bikes.
