Garrett Figley (B.S. Biological Chemistry and Molecular Biology, Wayne State University)

Garrett's current position at Swan Analytical Instruments USA Inc. is Technical Market Development Lead. He is responsible for Swan's technical documentation, writing, presenting at conferences, and leading operator trainings.

Garrett started his career at Great Lakes Water Authority in Detroit, MI, as a chemist. He was involved in the microbiology, wet bench analysis, and several special projects. After two valuable years of gaining experience at GLWA, he joined Swan Analytical USA Inc. as a Service Technician and spent the next two years traveling the country and working in a wide range of industries, which included municipal drinking water to semiconductor UPW, and everything in between. This position provided Garrett with exposure to a wide range of industries and helped strengthen his technical background.

"I think my favorite part of the conference has been essentially the Smarter Power Plant Track. There's been a lot of good [takeaways] for us because our plans are quite old, so there's a lot of manual readings and things, but me being the IT generation, I think it could be done better. So having a lot of these [takeaways] from companies who have [accomplished what] we are wanting to do is great. It's been really eye opening networking with all of the exhibitors [as well]. It's my first time here, but I don’t think it's going to be my last."
