Gerald Kaendler
Since May 2026, Gerald Kaendler has been responsible for European Affairs at Amprion as Executive Vice President. He represents the company in its engagement with European institutions and stakeholder networks and helps shape the regulatory and policy frameworks for the energy transition and an integrated European electricity market.
He has more than 20 years of leadership experience at Amprion, covering asset management, power-system development, permitting and the operation of transmission assets. As Director of Asset Management, he established the company’s Asset Management organisation and led it to ISO 55001 certification. His experience combines power-system engineering and transmission-network development with organisational leadership and financial responsibility.
From 2021 to 2025, Gerald Kaendler chaired the ENTSO-E System Development Committee. In this role, he coordinated European transmission-system planning and contributed to the development of a secure, efficient and integrated European electricity system. The Committee’s key outputs included the Ten-Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP), which identifies future European cross-border grid-development needs, and pan-European resource adequacy assessments.
He holds a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from RWTH Aachen University.
Amprion is an independent, privately owned transmission system operator in Germany. Its grid supplies 29 million people in Germany’s industrial heartland and is connected to six neighbouring countries.
