James Kelly
My background includes experience in engineering/design work for the power industry, field work for plant modifications and direct employment with a midwest indpendent power producer as a steam turbine process specialist.
My interest in engineering began as an enlisted boiler technician in the US Navy. Upon completion of my service I enrolled in the mechanical engineering program at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
I have had varying roles both with engineering firms (Sargent & Lundy, HDR and Valdes Engineering) and as an employee of Midwest Generation (now NRG) as a steam turbine process specialist in Joliet, IL.
Besides one new coal generation project I worked on, I have been involved with plant modification and betterment projects for most of my career. These include boiler modification for PRB conversion, environmental projects (SCRs, scrubbers), powerhouse plant improvement at a steel mill on Lake Michigan, fossil fleet weatherization improvements and capital project development for electric generation, water, steam and chilled water utilities at a Big Ten university.
