D. James Laven is Co-Founder and CTO of GridEdge AI and architect of Omnexx, an edge intelligence platform for industrial and utility infrastructure. For over 30 years he's worked across power systems, RF, and industrial IoT — from SCADA consolidation across TransCanada Pipelines' North American operations, to architecting one of the industry's first operational intelligence platforms for utility-scale AMI at CenterPoint Energy, to advising PECO/Exelon on their smart-grid roadmap. His current focus has been in structural problem solving in OT/IoTsecurity that is essential in protecting assets and data.Today as CTO of GridEdge AI, James continues to develop advanced edge-intelligence hardware and software, using AI-vision and embedded reasoning to upgrade legacy control rooms. His work extends SCADA, EMS, and ADMS with high-fidelity sensing and predictive operational insight, transforming grid and plant environments into more resilient, self-aware systems without invasive infrastructure changes.
