Miguel Arechabala

Retired Executive Vice President of the Power Generation Division, NextEra Energy, Inc.

Mike Arechabala is the now retired executive vice president of the power generation division of NextEra Energy, Inc., a leading clean energy company. Mr. Arechabala directed power production activities for all renewable and fossil-fueled plants of NextEra Energy’s principal subsidiaries, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), and NextEra Energy Resources, LLC. Under his leadership, the company operated approximately 65,000 megawatts of generating capacity at nearly 300 sites across the U.S. and Canada, as well as 1,000 miles of pipeline.

In previous roles, Mr. Arechabala served as president of NextEra Energy España, a subsidiary responsible for development, construction, and operations of two solar thermal power plants in southwestern Spain. Before that, he was vice president of operations for all unregulated thermal and hydro-generating assets at NextEra Energy Resources, and prior to that operated plants in Texas for the same subsidiary. Mr. Arechabala began his career as a summer intern at FPL’s Port Everglades power plant in 1981.

Mr. Arechabala received his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Miami and his Master of Science degree in engineering management from the University of South Florida. He is also a certified Six Sigma Black Belt.
