Ruark has specialized in Dams and Hydropower projects since 2001 providing mechanical engineering services for both new construction and rehabilitation and modernization of existing projects.  He currently leads Stantec's US Hydro-Turbine and Generator mechanical group.  

Expertise in Hydro-Turbines, Pump-Turbines, and Generators – specifically large Kaplan and Francis Turbine rehabilitation and replacement; Small Hydro; Outlet Works – large-diameter Valves and Gates; Cranes; and associated powerhouse balance-of-plant systems. Experience includes project management, system analysis and design, specification and drawing design development, bid review, and services during construction such as contract management, submittal review, site and shop inspections, field services, and commissioning. Additionally, Ruark has authored multiple publications on topics such as the mechanical components of hydroelectric generators and plunger valves for energy dissipation and flow control.
