Tom Sarkus is a Senior Managerial & Technical Advisor at the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL). Tom has over 45 years of professional experience including 39 years with DOE's NETL, where he has advanced technological solutions to energy and environmental issues. Tom is a technology generalist and focuses on large-scale technology demonstration, deployment, and commercialization. He has worked with a wide range of air pollution control and energy technologies, including: large-scale CO2 capture & geologic storage with Petra Nova, Air Products, and Archer Daniels Midland; SO2 control; NOx control; hazardous air pollutants; mercury control; steelmaking; cement making; hydrogen; long duration energy storage; and rare earth elements and critical minerals recovery. The advancements that Tom has helped to demonstrate have reduced air pollution by millions of tons, while reducing consumers' compliance costs by billions of dollars.
